CIE successfully hosted the 3rd International Chinese Teaching Conference

457A9102_副本  -2Confucius Institute in Edmonton successfully hosted the 3rd International Chinese Teaching Conference of Confucius Institutes and Classrooms in North America. More than 150 delegates from USA, China and across Canada attended the Conference that was held at Barnett House at the Alberta Teacher’s Association on October 17 and 18, 2015. This Conference is sponsored by Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarter and organized by the Confucius Institute in Edmonton and the Confucius Institute at Portland State University.

The dignitaries from the provincial and municipal office, the Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver, as well as the leaders from the Edmonton Public Schools and the Concordia University attended the opening ceremony of the conference and made speeches. They are Executive Director Dr. Sandra Stoddard, MLA Thomas Dang, Consul Chief Changxue Yu, Consul Jian Du, Councillor Bev Esslinger and Dr. Gerald Krispin.

During the two days of conference, 5 well-known keynote speakers in North America gave the presentations in different topics regarding Chinese language teaching. Their new ways of thinking to teach Chinese benefited our teachers a lot.

On October 16, more than 25 delegates had the opportunity to visit some Chinese bilingual program schools in Edmonton that is part of the conference activity. They toured some of the elementary, junior high and senior high schools.  The visitors were very impressed by the language skills of our students in the Edmonton Chinese bilingual program.

The Confucius Institute in Edmonton also organized the ‘Golden Autumn Gala’ during the conference. About 100 performers from CIE, Confucius Institute at University of Saskatchewan, Confucius Institute of Binghamton University and Confucius Institute in New Brunswick provided a wonderful performance with a variety show to display the Chinese culture and art to Edmontonians and conference delegates.
