On the evening of September 29, the Night of Shaolin Martial Arts was held at Eva O’ Howard Theatre at Victoria high school. The Wulin Hanyun Troupe, from Henan Province, China, the home of Shaolin Martial Arts, performed kung fu and played Chinese folk music. Dancers from Confucius Institute in Edmonton and Ross Sheppard High School also performed traditional Chinese dances. The event promoted the Chinese culture and enhanced the multicultural heritage that exists in Edmonton.
All tickets were sold as over 600 people attended the performance. Special guests included Mr. Nathan Ip, Trustee of EPSB, Dr. Lorne Parker, Assistant Superintendent of EPSB, Councillor GUO Jun, Consul WANG Hui and Consul FU Yunan from the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver. Trustee Nathan Ip, Assistant Superintendent Lorne Parker, Director of CIE Cameron Mah, Mr. XU Hengzhen, Director of International Exchange Office at Education Department of Henan Province, and Councillor GUO Jun brought greetings.
The event was hosted by Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and organized by the Confucius Institute in Edmonton as a part of celebrations of the 6th Confucius Institute Day. Edmonton was the second stop of Confucius Institute performance tour. The other 4 stops include Coquitlam, Saskatoon, Regina and Montreal.
Positive feedback was given to the CIE from the audience on how well the event was organized and the high quality of the performers.
