On March 15th, the Confucius Institute in Edmonton successfully hosted the 3rd Alberta Chinese Bridge Competition for University Students with the strong support from East Asia Studies of University of Alberta, MacEwan University and the China Institute. The University of Calgary also helped to promote this event.
The competition was held at University of Alberta and the theme of this year is ‘China’s State of Mind’. The contestants worked very hard to prepare for this competition with help from their instructors. All the participants did a great job, especially Sundus Yusuf who just started Chinese since last September and won the first place. The main purpose of this competition is to provide a platform for students to show their Chinese language skills and encourage them to learn more about Chinese culture and language. The participants in this contest will be able to apply for the scholarships offered by Hanban and also will have the possibility to attend the international competition in China as happened last year.
