The Edmonton Chinese Journal and the CIE have organized and hosted the Chinese writing contest for the last 6 years. This year saw the seventh and largest participation in this growing effort to support development of Chinese language in students.
On November of 20th, the award ceremony for 2015 was held at the Confucius Institute Cultural Centre in Edmonton.
More than 150 people attended the ceremony. Among them, were some special guests including Trustee Orville Chubb of the Edmonton Public School Board, Deputy Consul General Ms. Wang Lei and Consul Wen Fulin, ECBEA president Stephen Tsang and school principals and teachers.
At the ceremony, guests delivered greetings to all the winners and were called upon to present medals and certificates. CIE teacher, Robert Kong, spoke on behalf of the judges. Mr. Raymond Matthias shared his reflections of learning Chinese language and culture and how it has impacted his life, career and future.
There were 4 categories for the contest, elementary, junior high, senior high and adult. Each category had 3 winners, along with some awards in special categories.
The purpose of this contest is to encourage students and the community members to improve their Chinese writing skills and learn more about Chinese culture.
