2016 YCT/HSK SCHOLARSHIP AWARD NIGHT

IMG_9716On June 16, the CIE hosted the 2016 YCT/HSK Scholarship Award Ceremony at McCauley Chambers in the Center for Education to celebrate and recognize the successes that the students have achieved in the 2015 YCT or HSK Test. This was the 8th year that the CIE organized such an event. More than 70 students from grades 1 to 12 received an award. Half of the award winners were from elementary schools and the other half were from junior and high schools. The winners were identified based on the results of the 2015 YCT and HSK tests. All the award recipients from elementary schools were eligible to attend a one week summer camp free of charge at CIE, while the other winners received a $50 scholarship. McCauley Chambers was packed with more 250 students, parents, teachers and principals who came to attend the event. Trustee Sherry Adams brought greetings on behalf of Edmonton Public School Board. Along with her, Trustee Chubb and Trustee Ip also attended the ceremony. Dr. Lorne Parker, executive director of EPSB, Dr. Lisa Wright as the Principal Representative as well as Mrs. Angle Loo from ECBEA also made the speeches to congratulate the students. Isabella Ng, the student representative, shared her thoughts on Chinese learning and the test. After the ceremony, a reception was held and many principals, teachers and parents congratulated the success of the ceremony and expressed their appreciation for the support of CIE to the Chinese programs.
