Mrs. Patricia Gartland, Superintendent of Coquitlam Public School Board in Vancouver, brought a delegation to visit the CIE and the Chinese bilingual schools in EPSB on November 17 and 18. The delegation included two principals and two teachers. The purpose of the visit was to learn about the Edmonton Chinese bilingual schools and its curricula.
During the two days’ visit, the delegation was able to visit the CIE, two elementary and two junior high schools. They observed the classrooms and also had the extensive talk with teachers and principals. Assistant Superintendent Diana Bolan also met the delegation at Center for Education and provided them more information about the Chinese program and the recruitment of Chinese teaching staff.
Coquitlam School Board offers a similar Chinese bilingual program and now they are attempting to expand the program to junior high school.
