The 5th Alberta Chinese Bridge Competition for University Students

1The 5th Alberta Chinese Bridge Competition for University Students was successfully held on March 12 at the campus of University of Alberta.

The Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver and the Confucius Institute in Edmonton were major organizers for this event. The involved partners were many post secondary institutes in Alberta, including the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, MacEwan University, Concordia University, China Institute of the University of Alberta and Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

Seventeen students from the aforementioned universities participated in the competition and many people were coming to observe including professors, students and parents. All competitors displayed excellent Chinese language competency and cultural talents such as Chinese dance, music instrument, singing, marshal art, paper cutting and Chinese cooking. Their wonderful performances impressed all the judges and audience so much.

The intension of this competition is to encourage students to learn Chinese language and culture as well as to become more familiar with contemporary China.
