On May 6th, the Confucius Institute hosted a visit from a group of 54 junior high school students and 3 teachers, including the assistant principal, from Colonel Irvine School in Calgary. The purpose of their trip was to experience Chinese culture at the Confucius Institute in Edmonton.
The CIE visiting teacher, Qingmin Kong provided a very brief introduction about the CIE as well as the bilingual program in Edmonton Public Schools.
The CIE teachers provided the Chinese art workshops for the visitors, such as Chinese Dough Art, Chinese knots and Tai Chi. All the students were very excited about this opportunity and keen to learn and experience these traditional arts. They tried playing Tai Chi and made monkeys and dragon flies. It was a great experience for them.
The Calgary students also visited Londonderry Junior High School and had some interactive activities with the Chinese bilingual students. It was a great opportunity for the students from both schools to share their learning experience and practice their Chinese language.
