Mid-Autumn Festival

On September 8, the Confucius Institute in Edmonton was invited by the Chinese Benevolent Association of Edmonton to participate in the celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival at the downtown Farmers Market.

The annual event featured traditional Chinese activities such as moon cake tasting, making lanterns and playing cultural games. Traditional Chinese folk music and dances were performed throughout the day which also included a solo dance by our CIE dance teacher.

The CIE occupied two booths at the event that showcased dough art, calligraphy, Chinese knots, Chinese yo-yo, Chinese handkerchief, shuttlecock and board games. The event offered the CIE a great opportunity to promote the Chinese language and culture to the Edmonton community.

Special guests in attendance at the event included MP Randy Boissonnault, MLA Jordan Walker, City Councillor Sarah Hamilton, and Deputy Consul General GAO Zhenting from the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Calgary.
