CIE Shares Lunar New Year Traditions Across Edmonton

Throughout January and February, the CIE participated in a series of Chinese New Year celebrations. From professional workshops to major public festivals, the CIE served as a key partner in sharing Chinese heritage with the Edmonton community.

At the EPSB Professional Development Day, CIE teachers led an immersive workshop for educators, demonstrating how to integrate traditional arts—such as calligraphy and dough art—into classroom celebrations. Teachers gained hands-on experience creating festive “Year of the Horse” dough sculptures and hanging calligraphy decorations.

In collaboration with the ECBEA and the CGAA, the CIE hosted interactive cultural booths at both Londonderry Mall and Kingsway Mall. The booths engaged thousands of shoppers and families, bringing the spirit of the Chinese New Year to life through handcrafted zodiac bookmarks, paper cutting, and Chinese knots.

Through these engagements, the CIE continues its mission to foster cultural understanding and provide the Edmonton community with authentic, hands-on experiences in Chinese traditions.
