Book Launch for Re-Orienting China

On April 28, the Confucius Institute in Edmonton, in partnership with the Chinese Journal, held a launch event for a new book: Re-Orienting China: Travel Writing and Cross-Cultural Understanding. About 50 people attended the event.  

Re-Orienting China is an innovative research on travel literature studies of the recent forty years. Dr. Leilei Chen, the professor of University of Alberta and the author, demonstrates the transformative power of travel and cross-cultural understanding by analyzing two Canadian and four American travel writers on post-1949 China.

During the book launch, Ms. Vicki Lim, the President of Chinese Journal, and Dr. Wei Li, the Director of Confucius Institute in Edmonton, gave the welcome remarks. Dr. Ted Bishop, professor of University of Alberta, introduced Dr. Chen as her doctoral program supervisor and Ms. Grace Chi, the former Editor Chief of the Chinese Journal provided the comments and reflection on the book. Finally, Dr. Leilei Chen delivered a presentation on her book that was impressed by all the audiences. Q and A was followed and the warm discussion showed that this book would play an important role to help western people and Asian people to have a better understanding and appreciation of different cultures with a positive attitudes.
