Chinese Lunar Year Celebration at Londonderry Mall

5On February 13th, Confucius Institute in Edmonton participated in the Chinese Lunar Year Celebration held in Londonderry Mall. During the day event, Chinese visiting teachers of Confucius Institute showed Chinese traditional culture and art including Chinese knots, dough art and paper cutting. Dance teacher from the Confucius Institute and her students from Ross Sheppard High School also performed the wonderful Xinjiang dance and Dai Peacock Dance that were well received by the audience. Hundreds of visitors came to visit CIE booths with the displays of different kinds of Chinese traditional arts and they showed great interest in these arts. This year is the Year of Monkey. Therefore, the Chinese dough art monkeys made by visiting teachers became very popular with the adults and children. The visiting teachers couldn’t keep up with the order for monkeys and dragons, etc. Many people also visited and took a Chinese knot which symbolized happiness and auspicious.
