Chinese New Year Celebration at West Edmonton Mall

From January 14 to 15, the Confucius Institute in Edmonton participated in the Lunar New Year Extravaganza organized by the Edmonton Chinatown Multicultural Center at the West Edmonton Mall. This was one of the biggest events for Chinese New Year celebration in Edmonton.

During the two days of celebration, the CIE set up a booth to demonstrate traditional Chinese arts, such as Chinese Dough Art, Chinese Knots, Calligraphy and the Chinese Handkerchief dance. The displays and demonstrations attracted a large number of interested people.

The CIE teacher, Du Jinjin, and two dance teams from the Rosslyn Confucius Classroom and the Ross Sheppard Confucius Classroom performed four Chinese dances, representing four ethnic groups in China–Han, Dai, Uyghur and Mongol.

The CIE will participate in a series of Chinese New Year celebrations in January and February This year is the Chinese Year of the Rooster.  The CIE will take part in New Year activities organized by the ECBEA, as well as Chinese New Year Carnival put on by the Chinese Catholic Parish, and Chinese New Year celebrations in universities and schools.
