From December 5 to 7, the 10th Global Confucius Institute Conference was held in Shanghai. This is the annual conference organized by Hanban and the Headquarters of Confucius Institutes. This year, more than 2500 delegates from more than 120 different countries attended the conference. Madam Liu Yandong, the Vice Premier of China, attended the opening ceremony and also delivered an important speech.
By the end of 2015, 500 Confucius Institutes and 1000 Confucius Classrooms had been established around the world and located in more than 120 different countries.
Dr. Sandra Stoddard, executive director of EPSB, Dr. Mian Xie, CIE culture coordinator, and Dr. Wei Li, CIE director, attended the conference. Two principals of Confucius Classrooms in Edmonton Public Schools also attended – Rom Thompson and Heather Langenhahn.
At the conference, Dr. Wei Li was invited to give a presentation on the topic “Development, Achievement and Challenges of the Edmonton Chinese Bilingual Program.
The conference provided a great opportunity to share information and learn along with many delegates from all over the globe.
