The 12th World Chinese Language Teaching Conference was held in Shanghai from December 8 to 10, following the Global Confucius Institute Conference. More than 400 delegates attended.
The opening sessions took place at the campus of East China Normal University on the morning of December 9. Madam Xu Lin, Hanban Director General， delivered an opening address at the commencement ceremony. Dr. Dong Shijun, president of East China Normal University also brought greetings at the opening session. Several keynote speakers gave presentations on the topics related to Chinese language teaching and learning. Among them were Dr. Cui Xiliang, the president of Beijing Language and Culture University, Dr. Ren Youmei, Director of Confucius Institute of University of Hawaii at Manoa and Professor Zhang Jianmin， assistant director of the International Chinese Teacher Training Center at East China Normal University. Both Dr. Mian Mian and Dr. Wei Li from Edmonton were asked to give presentations at the conference.
In the evening of December 9, the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching held the annual meeting. Dr. Xu Jialu, president of the society and also former vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People‘s Congress, attended the annual meeting. Dr. Ma Jianfei, the society secretary and deputy director general of Hanban, gave the annual report on the Society’s work for 2015. At the annual meeting, the election of the board of the society followed. Sixty four directors were elected and the Edmonton Public School District representatives were elected as the directors of the board of the Society. And for the first time, a representative of Edmonton Public Schools was elected as a member of the standing committee of the Board. It was a great honor and recognition of the Edmonton Chinese programs.
