On March 25, the CIE received an education delegation from Suzhou City of China, led by Ms. Chen Lin, the senior chief of Inspections of the office of the Suzhou Municipal Education Bureau. Mr. Li Feng, the former consul of Chinese Consulate in Calgary was also in attendance.
The delegation spent a half day at the CIE getting to know about the Confucius Institute and enjoyed a tour the growing CIE library and other facilities, all of which left them favourably impressed.
During the visit, Dr. Wei Li gave a presentation on the Chinese bilingual program offered by Edmonton Public Schools. The delegation was captivated with the history and achievements of the Chinese Bilingual Program that has been offered in Edmonton Public Schools for over thirty years.
Following the presentation, a discussion ensured about ways in which there might be an on-going exchange of ideas and experiences second language education and curriculum design. The delegation invited the CIE to visit their schools in Suzhou City.
The CIE then provided the delegation with a city tour, helping them better understand Edmonton and its environments.
