In April and May of this year, the CIE organized its annual HSK and YCT exams. This year witnessed a remarkable level of participation, with a record number of students registering for these internationally recognized assessments of Chinese language proficiency. Specifically, a total of 1092 students enrolled for the various levels of the HSK, while an impressive 1129 young learners registered for the YCT. These students hail from the Mandarin Bilingual Program or the Chinese Language and Culture Program within the EPSB, as well as the Chinese (Mandarin) Bilingual Program of the CBE, highlighting the strong interest in Chinese language learning across the region.
Adding a significant milestone to this year’s testing, the CIE hosted the advanced HSK level 7-9 exam for the very first time. This challenging test is designed for learners with a highly sophisticated command of the Chinese language. Demonstrating their exceptional dedication and advanced language skills, three students undertook the HSK level 7-9 assessment at the CIE. This marks an exciting development in the scope of Chinese language testing offered in Edmonton and underscores the growing proficiency of students in the region.
